"Thank you kind criminal. You murdered my wife, and our unborn child, and my first born, you stole everything of value that I owned, and you've wounded me so badly that I will be paralyzed for life, but bless you for not lighting my house on fire or kicking my dog."

Yeah right.

The lesson here is if you want to get a hearthfire out of the way and it's yours or somebody's you know, just move the dang thing by making another hearthfire instead of trying to do it the really, really hard way.

The other lesson is that failed self vandalism doesn't really equal vigilante murder.

You leave scents
Someone summons you and kills you, earning a good chunk of LP from it
They leave a stone explaining they killed you with your scents but didn't destroy your other stuff (Though could have)
Instead of taking it as is, you warp it into them being some sort of vigilante and you a victim of false justice

How is it anything but vigilante justice?

He tried to destroy the property of his own alt unknowingly leaving a summonable scent behind.
Random person see's scent and "kills for justice" without knowing the circumstances or reason the scent is there.

Not only does that make the person a vigilante, but stupid as well. He had no idea why the scent was there beyond someone trying (and obviously failing as he said) to break this (which is his own alternate characters) hearthfire. The person did not even try to find out why/what happened to leave the scent behind. Simply walked up and killed the person then continued to act self righteous by leaving the runestone behind with that message.

So yes, he was a victim of false justice. Unless destroying your own property (or that of your alts) is criminal enough to make you worthy of murder.

Guess I am going to have a lot of rangers after me, I break old stuff that I have replaced all the time.

The guy may have just wanted to kill someone, he could just be an asshole.

So there seems to be some deluded misconseption that this person killed Footwo in some attempt at justice when he/she made no inclination towards such an idea. This person killed Foottwo because he/she easily could and would steal a lot of LP from him. He/she committed a criminal act (Because yes, killing criminals or innocents alike is a crime in H&H) by killing Footwo but in the process didn't completely ruin his game by destroying his settlement. Shall I translate the runestone?

'Tonight I have ended a life' : Tonight I killed Footwo
'but spared a village' : But didn't destroy his stuff
'Be wary of your scents of hearthlings' : I killed you using your scents. Be careful not to leave your scents lying around anymore.

I fail to see anything regarding justice, revenge, or anything. It was just simple murder.

Yup it was just murder. Douchebag murder done for no other reason other than gaining LP. He shouldn't have bothered leaving a stone.

Look at it this way, of course the guy's a douche for what he did, but what if he didn't leave a note? You'd log on to find yourself dead, and have no idea why it happened. At least this way, you learned what I imagine is a very valuable lesson for the future.

sucks for you dude as too the matter of the scents i feel unless there from someone who wronged you or you were hired to track them they should be left alone and are none of your concern
My friends are those who stand beside me, My enemies are those who stand against me, Those in between are innocent
I swear to protect my friends and the innocent from my enemies
So my question is Who Are You?

There is no right and wrong in this game. Everyone thinks they are the good guys unless they are intentionally being bad guys.
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

Being successful isn't just about hard work and succeeding, it is also about picking yourself up when you fail.
