Sodom network opened

Postby juhubert » Tue Apr 06, 2010 3:23 pm

Hello my fellow Hearthlings!

As the subject might suggest, we are opening over the time some of our sattelite villages to other players. Each of these villages contain a mine. But before my box gets flooded by PM´s i have to tell you the conditions:

We are looking for fairly active players to keep these villages alive. we don´t look for single players in the first place but a group. It is easier for us to handle a group and it is easier for them, since they know each other, to start immediatly with setting up their new home.

Other then that: none.

The reason? We are just nice people.

Tbh, with the new village mamagement system it is hard to keep all this sattelite villages up and running. Even if you heard different, we are not just a bunch of players, sitting their day out in pubs and bars and have our characters macro the hell out of the game. We enjoy playing this game as much as you do, and giving away some of these villages, helps us to concentrate on the game itself.

After you have contacted me, we will do some conversation, to get you know better and thats it. We will help you as much as we can, to get you settled fast and enable you to enjoy your life as part of the newborn Sodom network. Please be aware that the lawspeaker and chieftain is run by our city members, as we want to keep the overview in these villages.

The first village to be opened is a village containing a tin mine. To give you the opportunity to get bronze, you also will get access to a copper mine.

Other mines will be released soon, i.e. an iron mine. But since we want to be them alive and buzzing with activity, all villages will be interconnected at a certain point to have everyone the metal he needs.

You will certainly understand, that there won´t be a direct connection into the city of Sodom itself, since we don´t want to have our security eroded. But we will keep in touch with you and help you, to get a good start. Also will we look after your security untill the village is fully settled and have trade established.

So, if you´re interested, write me a PM.

Amazing. Baaaaw we got no metal all mines are claimed what will we do now the evil people have them all yet nobody seems interested in basically a free mine as well as access to other mines. Guess we're ok with the amount of mines in the world then.

Ahhh... yes but you're failing to take into consideration the "I want to have a village all by myself and be village leader!" people as well as the "This must be a Wayneville ploy to trap and kill us all!" crowd. Plus most of the existing groups have their own towns that they're happy with.

... and chieftain? Doesn't that prevent anyone you give the village to from actually doing anything with the village (IE: Adding new members themselves, expanding village influence to cover plots etc...)

If they're happy with their towns why are they baaaawing about metal? It's not like loftar is going to put a mine in the middle of it just so they feel good.

This made me giggle because that's exactly how it used to be. Ah, the first world.

As for metal baaaaaawing, I would hazard a guess that they're happy with their current towns if they could trade for metal. There seems to be a lot of sentiment that trade is at worst dead and at best controlled by fat, likely evil monopolies demanding mountains of chantrelles and chests of blood-soaked linen the 'little guy' can never hope to afford.

Another couple of reasons I would posit are that they want to earn the mine themselves (and believe there are none left to claim regardless of the actual truth) or that they feel they don't meet the criteria of 'active' or have a sufficiently large group to qualify.

I also imagine that a great majority of forum-folk are already involved in a community that has a mine.

Those most affected by the absense of metals are the loners. You are looking for an active group, and any active group by this time would have found a mine already in newly added grids. You still have authority over satellite villages, maybe you should try an experiment in one of them by grouping single players.

you sure made some points.

as for the evil empire plot, people just should consider, that it would take less time and effort to just go out on a "search and destroy" mission, then trying to lure them into our trap, wait for quite some time untill they built goods worth stolen.

and for the authorities. this would be a starting setup. as we get to know the new folks and our relation deepens and it works out well, we gladly would pass some authority to them, since the final stage should be a mostly independent village, that can run on its own and where people from our city just occasionally drop in to have some mining, trade our a nice chat.

that is why we are setting up Constantinople, to create a possibility for the world, to engage in trade again on a larger and hopefully final world scale again.

as for activity and number of players, our expirience is, that 3 fairly active players can raise and keep up a village authority pretty well.

also a good point, we just thought it to be easier to get a group in, as they know each other and you don´t have to deal with every single member all the day.

but if some single players wanting to join a mine and read this post - don´t hesitate to ask, we will consider this.

Yeah, I think Constantinople would go a long way towards alleviating all the worries about trade, and is a great effort that I applaud you all for.

As regards authority, I can say from experience that I've kept my group's idol running almost single-handedly while they deal with real-life stuff and other games. I confess I have way too much free time, but I can certainly see a larger group not having a lot of trouble with a small area while still putting in closer-to-normal playing times. But this is also a matter of perception and the group Avu was referring to I believe are also those with lower-than-average amount of time to play.

I think the best way to approach this might be to act like you're recruiting for a village - taking singles, small groups, etc. as they display interest - and handing off leadership as you mentioned above. That might be a recipe for disaster, too, I dunno. At any rate, I certainly wish you luck.
