Something tells me that the devs will never, ever make this currency-system work with HnH. In a recent thread jorb shed light on why he is against coin-based trading. Many of us disagree with him, but from what I've heard, community-fueled ideas like this have been around since world 1. I just wonder, jorb, why coins got implemented in the first place if there is no way to print them. Care to comment?

The problem with Buyan Market, for example, was this: I went there with 6000 selfmade bronze coins and literally bought the place. Tin and copper were quickly mined, smelting 60 bars was not a hard task, and it was highly rewarding. Afterwards, my town was littered with chests filled to the brim with delicious dwarven goods. And what about Buyan?
Its stand owners were probably baffled when they discovered the insane amount of metals they had earned, but it was actually useless (except for repairs) and didn't require significantly less work to smelt it back than it would've taken to mine in the first place.

So, no matter what kind of unprinted coin-based stands you set up, as long as printing coins doesn't get implemented, vending stands will be useless

tl;dr
Devs, it would be a good idea to either implement coin branding or remove coins altogether. Right now coins have no use at all.

Buyan is a closed market that you need access to right? Since you just said what you did that might as well be saying "Hey, I don't want access to Buyan anymore!"

I really want to go there it seems so cool and stuff.

yeah i went there with an empty lc and inventory full of bronze coins and left with a lc full of stuff and still a damn almost full inventory of coins :(

doesn't seem to get enough traffic, i guess. but it's impossible to have a "safe" market open to all.

The only real problem I've seen with the Buyan market is that most of the vendors there (not all) myself included, don't go there often enough to rotate our booth inventorys, or restock them. Also the Buyan market was founded with a seperate pricing guide that wasn't made open to the public, which values chants and such at a lower rate than the world view, but not by a huge amount. (5 coins each instead of 16 to 100 coins) I personaly didn't keep as much track of my booth when I noticed there was a lack of traffic, and that it only got worse as booths started to decay to dust. It does work, it just requires an added effort, and so long as you don't care where the coins come from it works. I don't care if the metal is Russian, Buyan, Goon, Sodomite, or free-lance, it's metal and has it's uses. Sure having to re-smelt the coins into bars is anoying, but perhaps adding another use for the coins, such as being able to make them into arrow-heads (yeah, metal arrow heads made from coins, super spiff) it would add another dynamic to their basic value as a "money for goods" thing.

The problem with Buyan market is that I'm the only Buyan member that's bothering to keep a stocked stall, and I'm not really the most active player (I play like 1h a day on average). We had quite a few people from outside the village that ran the stalls, but it seems that most of them have went inactive. So I strongly encourage you guys to open up your own stalls here, just message me for party invite when you want to build it.

Oh, and the world currency should totally be called galactic credits.

When I got a sign, I asked if buyout was a problem or not. They said it was OK, so that's what I did. Unfortunately, many stand owners have left since then, so the amount of available goods has gone down.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to look for new vendors (especially now with barter stands skipping the step with useless coins). When I'm done with this tedious amount of carpentry at my plot, I surely want to set up one of those there and at CO. Still, in the end, it's up to Potjeh and them dwarves to invite people.

well it's village claimed, so you don't need any "access", since you can walk on village claim and interact with barter stands. i've got loads of bronze coins and bars if you want some.

I don't think many of you grasp the difficulty of creating a singular world currency :P
There are many unnamed problems with this.

If you were to create a global currency, you'd need to establish one in a small area.
If you were to implement your trading system in just one village at a time, you'd be more successful.
Economics spread with success... you're attempts at implementation aren't ever going to work if you aren't doing it already... We don't even know how well the system will work yet!
