Well, using the currently generaly accepted value of a thread at 1 bar each, and there being 10 threads per cloth, and 4 cloths to a robe, your looking at a median value of 40 bars for a generic low quality merchants robe.

Common metal bar: Iron, Copper, Tin, Bronze
Silk cloth = 10 silk thread
1 silk thread = 1 common metal bar
4 cloth for a merchants robe, so 40 common metal bars
Converting this to other products varies from seller to seller.

No, quality doesnt matter on a merchants robe. The value of silk does go up though, increasing to x2 at q40 and x3 at q90 usually. Depends who you're trading with.

Merchants robes boost Charisma (and intelligence) and this increase is affected by the quality of the robe.
This boon is useful for Law Speakers, Chiefs, and setting a "tidy" table for feasting. [edit: oops, ignore that last part. Thanks Potjeh!)
