New player seeking trades on LOW ql stuff

Postby wolf1000wolf » Tue Dec 28, 2010 9:44 am

Hey allz,

New player (two days woot) here and looking for a decent bone saw, sling, and maybe stone axe?

Looking for ql somewhere between 20 and 50 for the saw and sling and 30+ for the axe.

Stuff I have to trade: some blueberries, chantrelles, and... random fish? ^^" QL ranging from 10-14 for the fishes and 10 for the foragables.

Oh, and.. someone please tell me how trade via forum works... the world is big. @.@"

Thanks,
Wolfe

trade works mostly by giving the trader (most cities have a designated travelling merchant/trader) your hearth secret in a private message, so he'll be able to find you for trading. if you know your worldmap location, tell it to the traders in a private message - this might be easier than pathfinding to your location by hearth fire.
do NOT post your hearth secret on the forum. do NOT post your worldmap location on the forum - this will just invite thieves and griefers, even if there is nigh nothing to steal or destroy.

fish is worthless for trading AFAIK - any village will have better fishing gear and therefore better fish. chantrelles and blueberries might work, but you'll need to gather larger amounts of them first. same goes for inkweed. cavebulbs are good for trading, but you'll need decent perception * exploration to find them, and one of the night-vision-enabled custom clients to make long cave walks less of a pain.

stone axe does nothing to help you. until you plant or find better trees, you'll get q10 blocks of wood regardless of carpentry skill and axe quality :(
slings were nerfed in yesterday's update - their damage is now always the same regardless of quality. you might as well get your own hemp or flax going and grind survival and marksmanship until the developers set any quality-damage-relation up again.
you might get a bone axe for free just by asking nice - after getting the metal ones to decent qualities, bone saws become almost obsolete.

Actually, fish is a very popular trade good, more so than chants and blueberries. Eel is the most valuable, perch, roach, brill and plaice are medium, pike and sturgeon are the least valuable (per slice of fish, of course). Whatever you do, don't slice up your eel, it'll cut it's value by two thirds at least.

Better stone axe gets you better skin and meat from animals.

Bone saws can be made in better q than metal saws, so everybody uses them when plank quality is needed.

Anyway, to trade you'll have to come to your trade partner, nobody will come to you for these small trades. Find out where you are in the world and try to contact active neighbours. If you are near the centre of the world you're in luck, since Constantinople is easily reachable by virtually every trader so you can meet for trade there.

Wow, thanks for the helpful replies! :D

The only question I have now is "how do I find out where I am?" I went boating for a whole day yesterday but ended up lost.

I suppose I have to compare a map of where I am or nearby landmarks/cities to the mqrius map...

Well, if you have placed a hearthfire near your location/place; then you can always get to the shore, pick up (lift) your boat and travel to your heartfire. That will eliminate the issue of failing to find the way back :D

Yeah, easiest way is to find some villages near you and try to find where they are on the map. Most villages are not labelled, so you might have to ask around a bit.

Hm... so I've traveled around a bit and the established places don't seem to be there.. or have different time periods.

Anyone near Clockwerk City, some Korean place, or Olaf's swamp? Or at least know where these places are located relative to the rest of the world?
