I've been using this practically since the first time I ever had two boats.

I used to do this in order to steal people's boats when I was a noob in world 3. Travel on a boat, find boat, lift boat, profit.

I mostly just took boats out of the river to check them, then laugh to myself as I realized that whoever had logged out on that boat would be unable to log back in from it.
