Soul-Crushing lag

Please reset the server! (not world, for all you doom-monkies). The lag is quite unbearable, and there are only 600-odd players on.

To all you script junkies; USE SLEEP TIMERS IN YOUR SCRIPTS; an infinite loop with no sleep built in that just spams the server is essentially a DOS attack. If you can't code; don't!

You know nothing about how this game works, scripts have nothing to do with the lag. Besides, this is the last place the Devs look so good luck with that. In summation, don't bother posting, you're just proving your ignorance tot he forum at large.

in an unrelated note, its always fun to fuck over the too trusting idiot using a loop. pop it on his desktop and watch him start the first one that proceeds to duplicate itself into infinity.

I do, actually. I put forth that you know nothing, period.

I also assume the the devs occasionally click the 'view active topics' link. You certainly seem to have found it alright.

In summation, eat my ass.

Actually, if you bothered to read before flaming you would see that the plea for less active scripts is an aside to a request for a simple server reset, which seems to have been the devs solution for the increasing lag over the last few days.

And finally; if you don't think 100s of clients spamming the living shit out of the server in any way affects latency... well you clearly don't understand nearly as much as you think you do.

Even though I heard Loftar saying that bots/scripts aren't causing the major lags back in the day of Ultima Online we could crash the whole server with them ^^ (even through all the widgets that should prevent that)

Still the lags are rendering the gameplay experience uncomfortable.

inb4 lock...

Ever think that loftar's tinkering with the server on the weekends might have broken something? Seriously, painhertz is right. You aren't a server admin so you have not a clue as to what may or may not be causing the problems.

CAN the bots break the system? potentially, yeah, they can. Is it what's causing the current problems? I doubt it as the server runs fine for days until it suddenly chokes like this. If it was the bots, it'd be nearly constant or start showing issues almost immediately after the server came back up.

FYI, server is getting rebooted. Also, try using right place for this, namely the "server issues" thread in the Announcements.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Ugh.

Of course I thought that, because I am not an idiot. In fact; given that the lag tends to increase over time, regardless of the number of players connected, I would assume that this new lag problem is a server-sided bug.

Seriously; re-read the OP. Line 1 was 'please reset server'. Line 2 was 'oh also, please don't spam the server'. I never drew a direct correlation. In the future I will be more clear in my postings, lest they be fodder for flame-junkies with serious personality disorders (NOTE: I am not a psychiatrist, I make no claims to be a psychiatrist, nor have I ever seen painhertzs medical records - this is merely a personal opinion).

Secondly, painhertz is never (very rarely) right.

And finally; yes, next time I will post in the appropriate forum. Please forgive my mistake.
