It says at the bottom of the home page whether the server is online or offline.

yeah any time you get disconnected just check the bottom left corner of the home page, and you'll be able to tell quickly if the servers are down or not.

How long do the servers typically stay offline when they go down like this, and is there anyway to semi-accurately predict how long until the servers are back online? I need my H&H fix!

it's pretty random how long it takes, just wait it out and read forums/wiki
