"PERSONNAL OPINION"

The thing is, I'm talking about the game company buying accommodations from datacenters, and the datacenters won't simply ask for 30 day allotments, with them being quite expensive for short term use.

What server rentals can be, is to have a VM based system to accommodate the bought server from the datacenter.

This allows you to divide it into smaller VM that hosts numerous servers at once, with specific limits in specs and hardware.

The issue is how one codes a effective server infrastructure to handle that, but I don't think colony would have a huge population to deal with, to get to this point.

I wonder, what if streaming technology is created to allow users to pay to 'stream' server hosting on their local network, but it isn't saved on their server?

Other players connect to said host, but the host is merely relaying the data back to the game servers.
Host can probably manage the server via browser maybe, and streaming technology technically lets you put temporary files or something on the host's computer to stream the server, without needing to risk leaving data behind.

Regarding newcomers and hardcore playerbase, I think that two server types would work best if they offer unique differences.

Primal server - Low tech relatively primitive server where players micro manage themselves into villages and cities, but that's as far as tech and warfare goes.
Much like hnh in a sense, but on a small scale level where players start out empty handed, grows to village size with chieftains, and wage territorial wars.
But that's as far as political ties goes. Think of it as a way to play the game in a shorter time frame and less penalties to do so. You can add unique perks and features to this type of server like, reduced penalty on death and quicker LP gain and such.

Domination Server - This is basically what you may want to see in the real full server, as a game that has a similar feeling to EVE online, is not newbie friendly, and is very politic intensive.
Something that expands beyond basic village and warfare, into high tech end game level, with large factions being possible and the game world can literally 'end' in a sense once a faction claims the entire world if you wanted to (and resets everyone).

Maybe the primal server can avoid resets, hence it's a continuous 'tribal wars'. And domination server is a sense of 'conquest'.

This way you don't split the community in half, yet you double the interest in both game types.

Lol, what I just stated is probably two different games lol!
But both 'games' share the same system, the same skills and mechanics, but only differ in the game rules in a sense.

He said he has 90% of everything done. If you care so much why don't you code all of that for them?
The only thing i ever made with c++ is lumberjack simulator 2013, and I'm still working on it!

I just had to make an account to say this.

There are many things to point out, but I couldn't resist this one:

C++ my fucking arse.

Jungletoe comes from "TouchofDeathforums". It's a forum about a free to use 2d VISUAL BASIC 6 engine. I also noticed how a lot of people there like to brag about their "C++" game made with the VB6 engine, Projeaar for example.

User was banned for this post. (Permanent)

Hahaha, I've already sensed that the group was something like this from the start, and just to let you know, the VB6 communities are quite notorious from what I've heard. With the way indie groups react to critics, I find that a common trait is sometimes the groups doesn't have a lot of business sense on where they stand in the world, or internet.

But generally the only thing I care is game ideas and how they implement it. Breaking down game mechanics is what I find the most interesting.

But basically, whilst he is a coder for his project, he is getting help from other programmers across the community. Anyone who doesn't come with a list of history making games would have to rely on other people's experience for the meanwhile, it's quite a normal process.

I have no idea why all of you think it's in VB6, nor do I care. I'm using a custom built C++ engine in that I've been working on for 8 months. drag0on has no idea what he's talking about. If I was going to use VB6, I wouldn't promise later support for Linux and MacOS because VB6 isn't crossplatform. Multiple platform support was my starting goal with Colonies. There is no way I would be able to generate a world size of 20,000x20,000 (it'll increase in later updates) tiles with VB6 because it simply isn't powerful enough to handle all of that data. I use C++ because of the data management, crossplatform support, and its vast libraries which help me.

I've never used VB6 in my life.
