That's because we have a charter stone.

aren't labeled on Mqrius'. If I were at my
computer, I'd give you a nearby labeled
city on the map, but since I'm not, all I can
tell you is that we are in the NE of his map
and on a mountain. If you've been there
it should stick out.
Btw, we have plenty of wood, afaik. I've
never had any problems.

Yes there plenty of trees nearby. I just think stumps look ugly, but I'm betting its not your fault...rather it was fault of jerks coming by and chopping everything.

We have a brick walled proper, that's been there for ages. To give a little more protection to our new villagers who can't protect themselves, we are building a palisade a little ways out, as an extension. It's been K's project, but that's what it seems to be to me. I would assume that an upgrade to brick will come afterwards, but I'm not sure. Of course, those living outside the proper could always work on it themselves, I guess.
