New to HH not to MMOs, LF Village

I just spent numerous hours building multiple boats and navigating a map I found online to go from Tree Hug to Bodgar while eating and crafting all the way, only to find Bodgar gone? But I'm looking for an organized group/village/town to get building some cool stuff. Not too sure of what factors to consider in choosing but since I'm a novice here any help will be appreciated.
