Earthshock is recruiting!

From the creators of Shatterglass here comes EARTHSHOCK... nothing to do with the Doctor Who series from 1982.

Earthshock is a nice little starting settlement, there is enough space for anyone and things are getting built quite quickly. The idol and palisade are both up.

Unlike most villages, you won't receive a claim when you become a member of Earthshock, you will instead receive a single house to store your personnal belongings as well as full access to the village's infrastructures. That means everyone shares everything. That's right, Earthshock is based on group effort rather than individual effort.

That means we are looking for generous and helpful people who will be happy to share their Haven with others.

We are not looking for anything specific at the moment, everyone is welcome.

These "sharing" villages generally doesn't compete very well with the other ones... Imagine:

Noob1: "Ahh, just picked 1 chestfull of cavebulbs! Now I can buy a stupid HQ stone axe! Anyway, I'll log out and go play some MineCraft. (D:)"

*Noob2 logs on.*

Noob2: "Oh, hey, Noob1 just picked a shitton of cavebulbs! I sure think he doesn't mind if I take 'em and eat 'em, I need some PSY FEPs."

*Noob1 closes MineCraft, and enters H&H again.*

Noob1: "Dude WTF?! WH3R35 M41H FR1GG3N C4V3BULB5!?!?!?!?!?"

*Noob2 walks over to Noob1.*

Noob2: "Oh, hey dude, I hope you dont mind that I ate your cavebulbs!"

*Noob1 stares at Noob2 for a while.*

Noob1: "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU."

*Noob1 takes his Q 10 bronze sword and starts beating the crap outta Noob2 who's only lvl 10 CON."

The End.

...Aaaand, that's why.

This man is speaking the truth. Sharing everything just doesn't end well. Having personal plots doesn't mean there is no group effort either, you just need someone to organize group activities.

'Sharing community' can work well, ours certainly dose. However people still need to have claims to put the things that they need (armour, tools, next few meals)

For example, I make a lot of cheese. Some of it goes to our members to eat (depending on their diet at the time), some of it is stored and most of it goes for trades. These trades are done by another person in the village and they trade for items and resources that the village needs. Yes i could keep back some cheese and make a few 'personal' trades to get things I want but what would be the point? The better off the whole village is the better off I am.

The most important thing you need to do is make sure there is a lot of communication, Parchments work well for this as well as setting up your own privet village Forums. That way you can label that those specific Cave Bulbs are for trade and not to be eaten.

Whatever happned to that place anyway? There weren't many signs of battle, iirc.

Just for the record, I was talking basically about just such a system as you describe it here. Keeping everything to yourself is just as bad as sharing everything. A community structure based on sharing and shared effort, but still with your personal refuge works best imo.

I ran a 100% sharing system once. Very effective for fast growth when you only need 1 of most items instead of 7. It is absolutely critical that you maintain a few strict rules though.

Trades should only be done by one person, who collects a list of needs and wants from the other villagers and keeps the trade items in a special place, where anyone can add to the stockpile but not take away.

High Q items must be put back when the user is done with them. Nothing is worse than having someone log out while holding the only q 130 bonesaw.

The farm can be group owned but only full nature high farming people must be allowed to harvest. Same goes for mines and full industry people.

Along with that, try to keep jobs strictly divided. Only the high cooking people should cook, only the high outdoorsman people should butcher, only the high smiting people should craft.

Keep the food stockpile massive. I logged on one morning to discover a few people decided to play though the night and ate every piece of food in the village, and were all starving since none of them had any combat ability.

Give everyone keys or give no one keys. Give everyone armor or give no one armor. If there is any inequality people get pissed and start hording to make it "fair"

That just breeds conspiracy and foragers 'foraging' AKA sneaking out in the middle of the night to trade for things and then hiding them in a vault outside the town.

This is classical primitive communism.
This system will die anyway after some time but for first time it will work normal.
