Barcania, new "colony" town (NOT A VILLAGE)

Postby Jubal » Fri Jun 11, 2010 9:08 pm

Hello,

We (3 noobs) from the Exilian webforum have decided to create the new town of Barcania, with the nearby port of Orentum. THe town is currently 3 huts, the port 1 hut. But we're building up, hehe.

Basically we want to run this little "town" on a different model to the ingame "village" structure; people will be able to fence off claims (and claim them if they have Yeomanry), and be independent within the town as long as they respect public property and aren't dicks. We'll have public buildings and market areas, and things like wells or any mines we find (the latter being unlikely, but hey-ho) will be public property. As I say we're not working as a village, we're happy for members to be members of a village elsewhere. There will be votes on municipal matters, held on our forums. It's possible that we'll ask for public donations at times too, in manpower and services rather than goods though.

We're all quite new players so far and it's probably a better offer for new players, though more experienced players are of course more than welcome. Clearly if you don't like the idea of this don't concern yourself with replying.

Here's the link to our official home thread;

Many thanks,

Jubal

New Brodgar did not fail Miserably, It was a Successful Failure...

Imagine a world in the future where it work 100% of the time...

Both Brodgar and New Brodgar were experiments on the players and game. Brodgar tried to get people in large quanties to work together, it worked but was crushed into a small space so ended up failing as people left for more space. New Brodgar attempted to be big too fast, it resulted in over extending itself and opening it doors to everyone where that inculded Idiots that come in for lulz or something of the like. And of course Zero defences due to fool hardy thoughts that people actually wanted a central trading area and wouldn't attack it, too many assumptions there...

Never think of any of those as failures, it was a Success at doing it wrong...
[Politics] The word was derived by the joining of two others, Poli - A Latin word meaning Many. And Tics - Annoying Bloodsucking Parasites...

We now have 5 residents and a tiny little central market square! :)

And yea, I'm not surprised at the lack of interest given the other things around. World's Edge sounds an interesting place, though I don't think we're aspiring to get to quite that size (particularly since just about none of us can fight effectively yet). I'm also thinking of trying to organise things on a relatively loose model, and encourage larger farms to be further out off town so we don't get too many space issues. For defense, I was thinking a central fort might be better and easier to work with rather than encompassing the whole town (which would make growth a little difficult and be very large and expensive to maintain). Can anyone give any advice on this matter?

Anyhow, it IS going well. Apparently we're close to the top right of the map according to a friendly local, too. If anyone happens to find us strangers and settlers are very welcome.

Well, we will be welcoming new immigrants in the near future, so if you are up for a walk you might want to consider joining us.

It's slightly amusing how I post a thread inviting people to our village and then everyone else decides to invite us to theirs. :P

Please note, ladies and gentlemean of the hearthlands, that we are currently settled and not considering random offers to emigrate.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. I'm actually the founder of World's End, and also of New Brodgar, Brodgar, etc. Basically the idea behind them all was that we can try and make more vibrant, interesting cities using exactly the kind of design you mention in the OP. So you see, my inviting you is hardly random. ;)
