Grind digging, once you have a very high UA, wait for someone to come along and open the gate (if there is one). Go on slaughter run.

Having attained the villagers I wanted (and 10 newbie skeletons, I have no idea how), and unleashed a plague of tree choppers and river campers, I turned off the charter stone. I recommend the experience to any village owner.
