well, if the game ALLOWED for such things I'd just straight up break one of each of their hands, old-school thief punishment style. Just KOing them seems like it won't get any message across, but straight up killing seems a tad extreme.

It's not. They're just no-LP alts most likely, murder isn't punishment enough if anything.

"Ball-Peen Hammer"

One nugget of any common metal, one branch. Learn to make it with Rage. Quality level softcapped by Smithing.

Equipping this item allows you to select Break Finger, which puts a temporary debuff ("MY HAND!") of sorts on the target that makes it difficult to pick items up. While it is active, it will take {Insert math here} seconds to pick an item up off of the ground and {More math here} to use Lift on larger items, with the time being dependent upon the quality level of the Ball-Peen Hammer.

They're not very strong in combat- I saw them along the river KOed to a boar recently, and I have easily enough unarmed and murder abilities to deal with them both. BUT. I feel bad about killing dudes for being, at worst, an annoying inconvenience. What's a good way to get them to stop without being a complete dick and straight up murdering them?

Well, friend, no one is going to solve your problems for you. You either do something about it or accept to be griefed. So if you have a pali, go for it.

I'd like one of them ball-peens, but until then looks like I'm stuck with murder.

I'll wait for the walls first though, better safe than sorry.

Yes, this is important, because leaving summonable scents without at least a pali and indoors HF is asking to be killed.
