We don't hate DF, in fact we love it. The problem is the population is so low in DF that we cannot justify playing it. IF the population eventually recovers it is the number 1 game for us.

The people playing this game have no idea :)

Is your definition of 'intruder' a random newbie who is figuring out the game or a friendly trader? If not then that is why you close the gate. If you aren't interested in social contact or trading then leave your gate closed. If you aren't interested in getting your shit jacked, leave your gate closed. Leaving your town gate open and killing anyone who steps through it is utterly asinine.

Not really. Its an easy way to get PKs. Pking is one way to play the game. If you don't want to be pked, don't wonder into territory before making yourself known.
