I can confirm that he said, and I poorly quote, "Give tribute or die."

I believe the first thing he asked for was 2 silk clothes, and the 5-10 clay back.

From what I understand, it seems like an overreaction--maybe from both parties.

I was guilty of a real crime- Not stealing clay out of a node, but of sneaking into WhiskeyJack's village and stealing numerous things. He found me, gave me a warning, and asked for his stuff back. He was exceedingly fair, and more than that, was polite during the whole dealing. When he found me outside my village before I'd paid him, he didn't kill me, he greeted me.

I think it's highly unlikely that this same individual is a griefer and a murderer.

I had quite the opposite experience. For one, he told me right off the bat about how he should kill me. I am quite open to relations but this is not a nice way to approach a situation as minor as this. He then told me that his rangers would be taking care of me if I didn't submit to his demands (only in a slightly less intelligent fashion.) Overall, he was clearly hostile to me and was attempting to use intimidation as his bargaining chip. If he were more reasonable and rational, he wouldn't seem like such a bad guy. But if is nothing more than an unrealized idea.

I guess the moral of the story is don't steal clay? and don't live near someone that steals clay.

To have stolen clay, no matter how little leaves a theft scent which leads straight back to your hearth and the stolen objects, this scent doesn't distinguish whether the thief is an upstanding citizen or how much they stole. The guy may be making unreasonable demands and taking his frustration out on other villagers, but I feel you should take some responsibility for getting your friend killed.

Where I live in the NW supergrid, people will attack you on sight with no provocation, it seems you are lucky to live in an area where it's relatively safe unless you steal.

I think people overall could just lighten up. It is just a game. The day someone attempts to kill me in real life over a piece of clay is the day the world is ready to end.

I'm not visiting people's bases attempting to kill their villagers.

I play this game as it should be played. A chill game where confrontation isn't the means to a successful end. I talk to people, I trade, I make friends. Met some decent people on here but there are far too many people who treat it as though thier real life isn't worth living and that they must vent their frustrations, gain attention that they would not otherwise get, and fuel thier muscle-flexing powertrips.

I just think rationally. Hate it as you will.

Ask him for 35 cows as tribute. By his standards that would put you guys on an even footing.

Let's be proper here, conquerors demand tribute. This is simply compensation for ruined/stolen goods.

But by that exchange, he owes me... 35 cows, 70 sheep, 35 pigs, 35 cocks, 385 chickens aaand... 420 q90 cheese trays. And some random seeds...

And a q40 bow, but eh, bows.
