actually i'm not posting threads about it because of the art of war. © sun tzu.

Another reason not to post is because of threads like these: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=12967&p=145006

I don't think Mikey is derailing the topic, I think he became the statistic of the topic :P.

Regardless let me put my personal: there are several reason of these raid topics or said.

  1. The first reason (and the most often) is that people want someone to avenge them or take back items stolen under the impression that there is some ranger or paladin out there that are kind hearted enough to help them out which may or may not happen depending on the situation, reputation and presentation of the one requesting as well as the individual rangers and their availability. In the same measure, some griefers will try to exploit this by taking on this tone to try to be avenged after being "wronged" by rangers which has success on varying degrees based on the 2nd ranger's experience and the history and situation of both griefer and the 1st ranger. And then there is a situation where neither side is considered "the bad guy" but two conflicting sides which happens more often than many think. This is something Mikey does not take into ccount, seeing things in black and white is going to get the truth skewed and lead to the the demise of the wrong person.

  2. Simply a warning, this is more voiced on concern for the people in the general region and telling them to watch out for someone that is in the area that is causing trouble. This is more likely telling the truth but some still may be false or at least various shades of the truth. Now if many different towns are raided for seemingly no reasons (such as Darwoth, or JoeBlade) then it is likely that the person is a raider. There is more leeway to assume here based on what had previously happened as well as if the same scents lead to the same source. The other part is to simply warn his village or the area that it is not safe in that particular village. An example is Prontera raided topic started by me. This may also be potential response bait by the raiders themselves as well.

  3. A success track and/or death of the criminal. This is mostly a show of strength and a message to anyone that it is not a good idea to mess with them. Threads seen are usually from villages but may also come from powerful individuals. Of course this has a bit of a possibility of provoking the one that was attacked to vengeance if the tone has too much "taunt" quality.

  4. Request for information or contact. A crime is commited but the victim wants to gather as much information about the criminal to either track and kill but also perhaps to speak to the individual to try to resolve this in a non-hostile manner. The former has varying degrees of success depending on the reputation of the one requesting as well as how elaborate the explanation as well as the tone. The latter has success depending on the diplomatic wording and tone of the the speaker as well as the intent and willingness to cooperate of the one that left the scents. Success has been reported from these topics as well but some breakdown of situations as well.

Then there's shouldn't be any problem with me telling you that you're an idiot, right? Or is that sass?

Not professional moderator-like behavior at all, infact, these forums have possibly the worst moderators I've ever witnessed, in terms of professional attitude. sorry to burst your bubble, but they don't pay player-moderators to be professionals with an un-biased opion on any kind of gaming forums I'm aware of, yet it still happens. Everywhere.

what kind of idiot has the audacity to come to a board and derail threads with demands on how its moderators should act? enjoy your vacation

This is the problem right here. If the mods don't want to refrain from acting like jerks, they should be able to handle being called on it without "vacations." Enjoy your power trip, Jackard.

I'm not trying to sound smart, I'm trying to keep this thread on topic and much of what I just said is from my experienced as a tracker in World 3 when I was in Sodom as well as a long time observer of many of these drama threads. Now I am not saying that all that I said is absolute (as if) but at least it is something to consider from one that has been immediate witness or experienced the above (including my Deadwood village mistake). Of course you can just ignore all of these if you want.

Also for the records, boisterous paladins don't live long.

Whoever said the community wasn't broken never really looked at a mirror... Probably because they've already broke it.
