Insulting the people you are trying to convince only hurts your validity as well as of the subject (unless that's your intent). Breakneak (johnsmith) is a big example of this.

Sure there are a couple gates open. But that doesn't mean they lead outside. In all likelihood they killed someone and stole the key. But only a palisade? I figure most people would have brickwalls by now.

The problem comes when you have a reputation like Koya. Anything he says is up for question. It's not stupidity when you question a proven liar. Nor would this be the first time Koya has exploited his way into a village.
