This outrage will not stand!!!1!2six (am I doing it right?)

Sorry, no actual outrage contained in this post. With the understanding that it seems like Rangers have more than enough people to whack these days, I wanted to offer up yet another opportunity on the off-chance that one of them found themselves feeling unusually bored.

I've been in the game three weeks, settling a nice little claim, making friends nearby, and generally minding my own business- which is to say, I've scavenged stuff I've encountered in the wilderness if it looked abandoned, but not taken anything off a claim or trespassed. So I'm reasonably certain that the guy who hacked me apart while I was on my claim building My First Palisade(tm) was just going after people for fun (I highly doubt my low-level squishy self gave him much in the way of LP). Granted, when I saw him running up to me with no word of warning, sword ready, and a certain glazed look of bloodlust in his pixelated eyes (okay, that last part was probably my imagination), I x'd out of the game like the callow little noob I am, hoping he'd just settle for a good assault and/or battery. Maybe that irritated him; I really don't know. He didn't steal anything that I noticed, probably because the overwhelming majority of my material wealth at the moment is comprised of pumpkins. Altogether, it wasn't a big deal, and I get the sense from other posts that variations of this happen frequently.

But in case there's anyone out there who enjoys picking on garden-variety wankers who enjoy picking on newbies, I'd be very grateful if you'd let me know, and I will provide you with my location. Thanks!

you know rangers could make a lot of wealth if they came together in a city, perhaps in the middle of the world, and took up 'quests' against thieves and murderers, for a price of course, it would be a great business opportunity, and everybody likes the feeling when they help out a newbie :D

You know, the "middle" of the world consists of raided, stolen/overtaken and abandoned villages.

There are far more evil people in this game than good people. Such town would have a really short lifespan.

lol, unless it would be designed by a super fortress architect then you would most likly be right, but it would still be a cool thing, having an official 'corps' of rangers to turn to when troubled by grievers

It's less about design and more about raw manpower.

This.

Unless such a group was a major faction with a lot of manpower, they wouldn't last very long. At the minimum, I'd say that you'd need 20-30 active members. At least half of those members should be active grinders who pump up combat. The rest could supplement the soldiers by producing cheese, etc.

Think about the Haven and Hearth Rangers.

This implies that anyone out there pays rangers, let alone pays them anything worth the time it takes to track down murderers. Can't even get a pumpkin pie in exchange for risking your life and establishing a hearthvault anymore.
