Look for reference points, like similar grasslands and lakes. That will make it easier.

maybe you shouldn't start your village if you are to weak to get the materials?how will you defend it etc

Hehe, you do know that founding a village costs 50k in total right?
A 50k claim is pretty big afaik, better go for that (no authority upkeep either)
