How to Crop a Durrping picture in Paint

Postby Projeear » Wed May 18, 2011 9:19 pm

If you want people to help you with something, and images are in requirement, then please, Crop them. Here's how to, even in Paint, so that everybody can do it.

This is what you currently look like when some of you are posting images for help:

This is WRONG.

The below, is better.

Image

How do you do it?

Well, rather than hitting PRINT SCREEN key, you press CTRL + ALT and *then* the PRINT SCREEN key. In that order.

Again: HOLD "Ctrl" and then hold "Alt" as well. When you've done that, then you press Print Screen. Don't forget to make sure that the Haven and Hearth game window is active (Not in the background) too!

Now, here's how to crop it. In paint.

First, Ctrl+Alt+PrtScn.

Secondly, open paint.

Then, Ctrl V (Paste) it into Paint.

Image

Then, with your mouse, click-drag it so the top left of what you don't want dissapears beyond the screen, under the top-left, like below.

Image

Then, press the ESC key, which will deselect the image. Now, at the bottom right, outside of your image, there's a little square.

Click drag this to the bottom right of your image.

Job done.

File > Save As...

Saving it as below, as a "PNG" means it won't lose any image quality, so people can see it better.

Squatter and Rebuilder of Templus Pacis (w6).
Hermit thereafter.

Sorry about your resolution.

Also saving intricate images like screenshots with PNG makes them ridiculously large (400k+). Just use a relatively high q jpeg.

Alt + Printscreen takes a screenshot of the currently selected window.

What does Ctrl add to that...?

Irfanview can be an alternative to cropping screenshots in MSPaint. (Among other uses.)

Ctrl+V to paste screen
Leftclick+drag mouse to select area
Ctrl+Y to crop selection
Save
Upload to site like http://imgur.com/

I realize that I commit the horrible sin of MSpaint screenshots done cheap, but for the love of god people need to crop out their desktop XD.

That being said, I don't think this needs to be a guide so much as a post in congress yelling at people :P

Editting this, for the above. Hurr. I was at work, on my iPhone. :P

Ctrl alt PRINT SCREEN.*
