Killed, but how?

Postby Panel9 » Wed Aug 25, 2010 8:09 pm

Hello there, not sure if this is the right board to ask this in, but here's my case anyway.

I logged in today to find that my main character was missing. When creating a new character, there of course was a runestone asking me if I wanted to inherit.
I am very sure of something, though, I logged out the night before while standing somewhere in my village. That means my character was not in the game world, right?
I never got to read up what happens to the character when you log out when not in a bed, but I never, ever encountered a character in the gameworld that wasn't either active, afk or in a bed, so there couldn't be a random animal or murderer causing me harm.

So the next thing to ask, was I tracked down?
No. My character didn't even have Theft, Rage, or anything else that could leave scents that would summon my character to his hearthfire. Actually, I never even touched claimed land (safe for passing through in a boat) in the last few days because I had a rather intense phase building up in the village and introducing newcomers to the game.

How could I still be dead? A random bug? Did the backup fuck up?
Anyone had something similar happen to him/her or a friend? And most importantly, if it turns out to be a mistake, do I get my stuff back? I had some keys important to my village on me.

Thanks in advance.

I haven't even found it.
There was a skeleton by the river, though.
I think someone else carried it in as decoration, I guess.

Look around and try to look for some scents.

if there aren't any its probably a bug, but I think you might have been killed actually... so look for scents.

Guys, I found this guy standing completely still and staring into the heavens like a mad man who might leap upon you and tear your throat out. He was in the middle of what seemed to be a peaceful little village.

Not wanting the villagers of the peaceful little hamlet to get their throats torn out, I killed him with my smithy hammer. Then, not wanting his blood to infect the other townspeople, I dragged his corpse to the river to dispose of him.

I removed his clothes and a key marked "Important to the village, P" so nobody would come by and harm the blissfully unaware hearthlings.

I am such a hero.

Looking at the logs, I see that Panel9 was indeed summoned, but it is also true as he says that he has neither Rage nor Theft (and therefore obviously not Murder or Vandalism), so I must admit that I'm a bit stumped at what he might have been summoned for. Does anyone know of a way to leave summonable clues with only Trespassing?

Destroying someone elses hearthfire.

Do you not leave theft scents for stealing from a barter stand out of a claim? Not sure if you need theft for that.

True that.

I'm pretty sure you need Theft for that.
