Locked out of compound

Postby mockcaster » Mon Nov 08, 2010 2:59 pm

I've got a palisaded compound with one gate, with my Hearth Fire outside the compound. Today, I picked up my boat and teleport to my Hearth Fire to go forage some river pearl mussels.

After about 10 minutes of foraging, I check my inventory and notice, to my horror, that I am not carrying the key to the gate. I can only assume I put it in a cupboard to maximise inventory space while cooking the previous batch of mussels.

So I'm locked out, and with the most recent update, the palisade walls won't ever decay, because they're on stone foundations.

Is there any way for me to regain entry to the compound? I've seen wall jumping techniques mentioned on the forums, but I think they require a village crossroads. Would a plea to Jorb or Loftar be worthwhile?

TL;DR - me stupid, me locked out, me need help

I doubt you'd get help from JLo since you're in this situation due to stupidity, not a bug. I guess your only option is building a ram and bring one piece of the palisade down. If you don't possess the strength/equipment you'll probably need to get someone who lives nearby to help you. You could also try the wall jumping thing but a village claim costs way more resources than a ram.

There's always the problem with the scents you will be leaving though.

Why would he leave scents on his own compound?
Once a man has changed the relationship between himself and his environment, he cannot return to the blissful ignorance he left. Motion, of necessity, involves a change in perspective.

Lawl, good point. I, uh, only said that to, er, see if people were paying attention. Yes, that's it. Ignore the scent comment from me then.

Thanks for the tips folks. Unfortunately all the villages in my area are abandoned.

No big loss, I was planning on migrating to a new area soon anyway. I was hoping to bring my q50 seeds with me though, and there's 9 pearls locked inside.

While I wasn't smart enough to lock an alt inside the compound, I did think to load one up with some restart gear (bone glue, leather etc) so I should get set up again pretty quickly.

I didn't know that a palisade on a stone foundation won't decay..... :o

Just wait outside for about a mouth or two and you'll get back in, they are still decaying at my place so I am sure yours will too.

If you know a village nearby with a claim still up that you can take over, to build a CR, I'll warp there and break down your gate.

In the future, keep your hearth fire inside.

It's the new update. He could remotely declaim his plot and they'd start decaying, but it'd still take ages.

Thanks for the offer, but in the time it'd take me to set up the CR, I'd be back on my feet in a better location. There's nothing about the locked compound that's worth going back for, I just set up where I started after character creation.

To declaim the compound, do I just build a new stake claim elsewhere?
