Have a village up yourself, covering the wall and enough tiles beyond it (at least 10).

Make sure that YOUR claim covers your walls.

A "hostile" claim cannot be made less than 5 tiles away from yours, so if you cover the walls, they won't be able to.

Do not attach your portion of palisade to a palisaded wall of a village already built. ;)

Don't get too paranoid because there are exploits.

Make friends with whom you can ask for help and don't cause trouble.

Won't help when someone comes, drops a village covering the wall and thus is able to build a crossroads there (and use it to jump over the wall).

You can build a village on land claimed by a stake.

In theory it is always possible to jump walls no matter how far your own village claim extends. Most people just won't bother anymore at a certain point though, because the farther their idol is away the more signposts they will have to drop. Making it thousands at a certain distance.

in theory it's also possible to may your place impossible to wall jump inside but that pretty much restrits your village transportation to crossroads.
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

Being successful isn't just about hard work and succeeding, it is also about picking yourself up when you fail.

What do you mean by that? Multiple layers of walls? Because if that's the case, you can jump in the buffer zone, put hearth there, and then port in materials to fill the buffer zone with construction signs as well.

He means you could stuff your entire town with signs as well, that way nobody can get in.
