Can't Find A Mine, Looked For Hours

Postby WhiteWhale » Tue Nov 23, 2010 8:06 am

I know that this sort of thread appears quite frequently but my friend an I have been searching for a mine together. And we managed to get out of the mapped regions area for a good two hours worth of boating. Yet after using almost 3 litres of rust-root extract we have found nothing. We have the Prospecting skill but nothing ever shows up, so is there anything else that helps find a mine or are we forgetting something?

i don't believe ur forgetting anything. it's just not the easiest to find a mine.

do a search and spend bout 10+ minutes lookin at different strategies. in fact i believe when i first was looking for a mine there was some helpful tactics in my Old thread about it.(i think it was the wagon trek one)

That is a start.
Yet after using almost 3 litres of rust-root extract
Multiply with >10, then ask again. Finding mines is hard.
are we forgetting something?
The supergrids are all quite explored (even when not on the zoomable haven map, since not everyone shares their maps).

So best hint would be to go where noone has gone before: leave the rivers and travel the land (since most explorers are kind-of lazy).

Tbh just give up on finding surface mine. It's impossible coz every surface mine is already taken. If not taken it is already built and on claim and if it build u cannot find any materials nearby when prospecting. MAybe you will find some abandoned mine, but keep in mine this mine will run out of ore if not already.
SO only possible solutions to be there: look in caves. Cave mines are almost worthless coz lot of times u will find that mine is pretty deep in cave and to get there u will always have to walk. And if u want to mine hefty of ore, this means carrying a chest or a boat of two chests... it goes too slow...
So better: find trading partner that has metal and trade with them for good q clay, wood or water. Finding tohse should be less painfull I hope.

Again, unless you are strictly dedicated to being your own law speaker with your own autonomy starting from scratch, there are more than enough villages with all the mines and resources you could imagine. They need your help and as noobs you could most defiantly use theirs.

It has already been said, but just to be clear:

You need to search in caves. If you search outside it won't detect mines in caves. Good luck!

Lies.

Lies. Sodom has had an iron mine since the start of the world and it has yet to be emptied out.

Thanks for the suggestions and help guys, soon as my friend gets on-line we're going to continue for day two of traveling, at least this clears up the thought that we were forgetting something.

Your best bet is to prospect in caves.

I've been searching for at least 8 hours far in-land by wagon towards an edge of the world (I even go hours without seeing any bodies of water). I just kinda prospect every now and thenThis area is definitely uninhabited; there's not a single bit of construction or any trees chopped. I head for the hills whenever I see them, I've prospected at least 6 caves...
I've passed by a few claimed mines hours earlier in my travels. I looked up the village names on the forum to get an idea of when they were found. One of them was recruiting villagers in October 2010, so I'm guessing they found it around then. Another one looked like they were just starting to build their first stone mansion; it wasn't a very established place, so I estimate it was discovered earlier this month. I must be extremely far from the publicly charted world, to say the least.

I remember reading about people who found mines and simply left them because it wasn't what they wanted, making it sound like finding a mine was something anyone could do if they put the effort into it (or even as though it could be a semi-easy task)...

Oh, I seem to have reached the edge of the world. I can't proceed in my direction anymore... Despite finding evidence of recently discovered mines, this feels so hopeless! My sanity is kept only by slaughtering any boars and foxes that cross my path.

edit: Make that at least 15 hours and at least 11 or so caves... Still uninhabited areas with level X animals. I'm almost ready to just give up and become a slave of some lucky village so I can get my hands on some metal, though I really don't like the idea of that or the restrictions that apply...
RIP
