Finding Clay Spots

Postby Ahhburn » Fri Dec 10, 2010 11:20 pm

Are there any tips for finding one? I'm in need of a kiln and an oven so I desperately need clay at the moment and searching for 30 minutes so far hasn't returned anything of value. Are there any tips to be given?

Two things,

One: You shouldnt be looking for clay JUST to make a kiln. A kiln only heats pottery.

Two: Try finding a lake/big body of water, then go to the shallow water, then dig there.

Kiln also makes charcol (iirc) and glass, maybe malted wheat too but whatevs.

Anyways other things to help ya out, find a lake and dig in the shallows every map or so until the action repeats itself automatically, that means you've struck a clay node. Other easier ways to find it is take a boat tour of the shores, look for old abandoned kilns or check for kiln construction signs on the shore (often ways ppl stockpile clay).

I need a kiln to make bricks to make an oven to bake things to raise my attributes. They do a good deal more than just the typical pottery.

yeah I know about the shore searching, that's what i was doing. I'll take a boat tour though to look for some kilns, that was a great idea!

I'm guessing that artificial mud cannot produce clay. Can anyone confirm this?

I have tested the artificial "mud flats" many times, and continualy to my chagrin, no clay. Got a q20 spot in the middle of my village (it heathed over and I picked the feldspar that spawned, yeah, q20) that is underutilized now as a hemp plantation.

Regarding Clay Spots. I have two by me and I get 10 ql clay from each. Can I increase the ql by upping a skill or is the ql static to the spot?

It's related to the spot, if you dig around the shore/flats in that area you might see the ql start to increase (you may not though as well could just be a ql 10 node), keep following the increases to find the "peak" of the node, or at least as near as your able to dig.
