How do I deal with a murder attempt?

I'm surrounded by bastards who say they're going to kill me and curse me out. They steal my crap all the time and I ask them to stop and they do it anyway...we have property with yeomanry and some guy just now walked on it picked up an urn of bricks and carried it away...I wish I had raging :/ I asked him to stop and he said "**** you" "I'll ****ing shoot you" (he dropped the urn and turned around with a bow in hand....but i doubt he had raging...so i persisted....what if he actually started killing me? Also How can I protect my settlement from these assholes? They douches keep coming...and I can't do anything but stand there and watch them steal my stuff like "duuuuuuhhh okaaay take it!" The settlement has about 8 people who work it. Any answers much appreciated, thanks!

Build a wall and/or hire a ranger to kill them all. There should be clues if they're indeed taking stuff from your claimed land.

Even a fence can be used to keep out folk who don't have vandalism, provided it's on your claim and you repair it often.

so if I make a fense around the owned property...as long as it's on it, they can't destroy it right? but can I make a door on it or something as I am doing ore trips and i can't bother building a fence every time I go in and out...plus the jerks destroyed both our close by trees in our property....

What you need to do is:

1) Build a fence -- This will stop them from coming in unless they have vandalism. The fence doesn't have a gate yet, but you can build and remove sections to get in and out.

2) Get on the IRC channel and ask for help.

3) Post a map of your whereabouts on the forums, and ask for help.

4) Move somewhere else.

If they have indeed been stealing from your claim, they have committed summonable offenses, and can be killed even if offline.

Okay helpful stuff is noted and I'll discuss it with everybody...as it is we had a fence, but it's not actually on our property so people put holes in it to get in. Only thing I'm wondering is, what is the safest thing to do if a murderer is actually attacking me and I can't defend myself? I assume if somebody tries to initiate combat that you can fight back as well right?

Best thing and only thing you can do without rage is run inside and :lo.

AFAIK you only need rage to initiate combat. Once the aggro is up, you don't need it to fight.

defending yourself does not leave scents either, unless you kill the attacker. the attacker will leave an assault scent.

What if I clicked the red X on my game window? Would that work or could they still kill me somehow?
