no claim, fair game?

you only leave scents when you use criminal skills right?
you only can trespass, when you have the skill?
its only theft when its inside a claim?

because I just found a house with a lot stuff in it and a huge wheat and flax field without ANY protection and no claim....

You can enter a claim without the trespass skill still. It is only officially theft when it is taken from inside a claim, but if someone catches you stealing in his non-claimed area, nothing stops him from murdering you. Other than that, yes, non-claimed = fair game. What you described is likely an abandoned plot?

If I mem'd you looting something of mine that was unclaimed, I'd treat it the same as 'scented' theft. I've had polish guys steal loaded boats from us while we were moving them from the docks to the village claim. Mem'd but no scents, but we got them eventually. Crime is defined by the act; scents make it much easier to find a criminal, but as long as you're sure it's the same guy justice is justice.

So yeah, if you're gonna do it try not to get caught in the act.

well it was a single log cabin in the middle of a pretty big clear cut area full of stumps and buckets.there was no claim but nice seeds, even carrot seeds.

I took it but left him some seeds so he can replant( if the area wasn't abandoned) and I left him his clay( was low q anyway) and put some strings, chantrelles and a fucking rabbit in his cupboard( that poor guy had no meat, not a healthy diet!).also I live far far away so he can't finde me without scents

actually, there is also a sort of "etiquette" for stuff like this. you can harvest some plants but always put back one seed. it may screw his q if you're a worse farmer, but that will teach him to protect his stuff

since he is a bucket grinder, forget about it and screw him over generously

I pretty much do that anyway. If I take unclaimed stuff, I try to leave something at least a little bit useful

Hah! When I find a cabin on the verge of breaking into pieces, I just fix it and move in, although their hearth fire is right next to it!

Even if it's not claimed I don't bother looting it. Generally speaking they worked for it and deserve to keep it, even if it was a bit stupid for them to not have a claim for personal goods.

You may be nice enough, but many others aren't. A good idea is to check the average dilapidation. If there are random patches of plowed ground, red (broken) furniture and constructions, and unfinished building sites, then it's usually fine to take something or everything. You can tell they're not coming back anytime soon.

Also, you run the risk of it being a honeypot and that would suck really bad.
