How much level for hunting?

Postby hybridluis » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:42 am

i have leather armor, pants ,boots and boar tusk helmet(from scavenging) and my reliable q10 stone axe, and melee weapons 15, and i couldnt land
a single blow on a fox, yet i almost died and my full set of leather armor is ruined, why would somebody need to be better than this to kill a mere fox, they are the size of
cats for christs sake...

How much stats do i need to hunt with melee weapons?

You'll need UA far before you'll even worry about melee. You're making this way too hard on yourself.

A good way to think of it ~
1-20 in a Skill is a child playing
21-50 is a Young Adult
51-200 is an Adult
201+ Is a specialist

You're currently the equivalent of a child running around with a stone axe. As adorable as that is, that won't fell as fox.
You'll need a wooden shield in order to use melee combat as your defense and remember to change your Maneuver to Block instead of Dodge.

10-15 Marksman can kill you a fox, auroch, or mouflon. That's good lp, meat, and leather.

UA is unarmed combat. Rome was not built in a night =)

Melee is pretty much the high tier of all the combat methods. I'd really not worry about it at all right now. Pump 20+ marksmanship and see if you can scrounge up a decent sling and hunt that way for a while until you've got a about 30-50 UA, then you can try punching some cows.

As you play and build, you get LP faster and faster, pretty much regardless of your profession. It'll take you 2-3 days to get the lp necessary to hunt foxes and boars, then another 2-3 to get enough to hunt deer and bears. It's not a huge curve and is more a test of your ability to cope and learn rather than run at something and try and win in hand to hand combat. Animals are stronger than you, this is kind of just how it works. Humans need unfair advantages to get the win =D
