Sling hunting help

Postby adamater » Mon Feb 21, 2011 5:06 am

What is the marksman level required to kill a fox/boar without trapping it in.

What is the technique used to trap and kill a boar with a sling?
Same with a bear.

What mm do you need to kill an auroch herd <30 minutes?

your damage largerly depends on your sling quality. to reliably 1 shot a boar or fox, you'd need a very good sling. better yet, get a bow

to trap a boar, or a bear, make an almost complete trap with signs near water, keep your boat there, when it enters the trap enter your boat, go away till it de-agros, come back, finish trap, get into boat, sling away. they can still charge at you when you finish the trap though
Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make all of them yourself.

My hunter has 20MM and kills lv7 boars.
How he does it, idk. I do know that trapping boars won't work since they just destroy anything weaker then palisade.

Trapping boars/deers/bears is to prevent them from running away, not attack you. If you engage from a boat, they won't destroy the signs, neither will they when running away. They only destroy fences and such when you engage from ground.

With any skill in mm and any quality of sling, you can kill pretty much anything as long as you're patient. Either you fence them in, and it's easy as you don't have to get out of your boat, either you don't trap them, and they'll run away.
If they run, either you stop the fight, and loose some lp, but catch it easier, either you don't, and try to catch them, which can be really hard with anything else than a boar. You'll want to use punch (UA is irrelevent) to finish them off when they're running away. So you can kill foxes/boars whatever you skill is, even without trapping them. Be aware that it can take a while though.

Also, you got to be carefull with deers and bears. Deers heal, so they may turn around and fight when you're trying to catch them on foot. Bears don't heal, but I still almost got killed by one that suddenly wanted to fight again. Trapping those really really helps.

He was fighting from a boat, yet the boar destroyed a sign and ran away.

You're right about the rest :P

Don't need to trap boars. When they run just exit, move as fast as you can and punch the shit out of them. If they turn back on you, they won't attack.

Foxes you need to trap if you want the LP. If you just want their loot you can keep gong out of combat like chasing a rabbit on a failed attempt and shoot at them, rinse/repeat.

Bears don't tend to run (vs a sling at least).

All of above requires boat or pal/brick wall.

Bears do run. Against sling. You just need to damage them.

I know they do but only 1 out of 4 has for me so far. Not sure how it decides to run. I figured it was a single hit being a certain % of their health or something so lower dmg sling shots don't make them run.

I wish I had your experience. I have killed about 10 bears so far, but another 20 ran away and I never found them. And everytime I make them run (usually 3rd to 4th hit) I hop out of the boat and they get back, but when I punch them to the raging state they sometimes turn running again and they get lost. I am prety sure they "log off" because the last one turnd to the v shaped elevation with palisade on one side, so there is no place it could hide, but it was not there. And if it was finding its way along the pali or elevation, I would see it. I think bears are cheating. :)

yea, you just be fighing hacker bears. For me, even the one that ran away, as soon as he got out of range and de-agroed he walked right back to where we were shooting him and let us kill him. We didn't move or try to chase (too scared :P). We lost like 10K LP from that happening but at least got the goods.
