Animals dying out of nowhere

Postby Danno » Tue Feb 22, 2011 8:42 am

I was walking along and heard some combat noises followed by a loud CRUNCH. Perhaps someone died trying to fight an animal? I took a few more steps and discovered a dead fox lying in a pool of blood, but there was no one to be seen. It wasn't trapped or anything... it was just suddenly dead. Nobody came to collect it.
Over the past couple days, I've noticed that there are many fox skeletons in my area in random places. I just took the bones without thinking much about it before, but now I feel like something's strange... If someone was getting one last desperate shot with the sling in as the fox runs away, why would I hear combat noises? There weren't any chickens near the fox. And really, could a person succeed in killing that many foxes like that? There isn't much water around here and only one other person with a palisade in the area, so where are they even sniping from?

Is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone have some sort of explanation for this? The best I can come up with is that someone is hunting the foxes head on, but it's weird that they'd never collect the spoils and immediately warp away after killing it.

Extreme fox hunters.

Stay away for your own safety man.

(But seriously, there are bound to be a lot of people who just one-punch animals to death and move on. Wouldn't you agree?)

2 punches, fox is dead, and a hearthling continues his journey. if you have issues - be prepared to face some troubles

Maybe, he killed fox for LP, and don't need it's meat and intestlines, or he have no cart or boat to carry it.

yes they can kill a fox like that. friends of mine have just 50 UA and about 100 str and they can kill a fox given some time, so stronger people should be able to do it very fast. And being stronger, they dont really need fox meat, skin or bones, but some lp is ofcourse always welcome

Reminds me of the Runestone I walked upon, which said, "THEY ARE HERE." Another said "GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN."

Scared the hell out of me. I finished my business in the area, ran to my boat, and cried.

When I go and see a fox, two punches make it bloodystained and I just butcher out two intestines and go on further. 15secs is usually enough.

The crunch sound is created at the point of the target instead of the source so that would mean that the fox was probably slinged at a good distant or was killed quickly before the person moved on to next target. Many people do not bother harvesting a fox since they have rather low quality. Bears on the other hand...
