Newbs, Combat, and Stats?

Postby Lupich » Mon Mar 07, 2011 1:59 am

Newblet here, again...

Had two question. One, is there a video tutorial somewhere of how combat is supposed to work in this game? I've been playing pretty steady for 2 days and I'm running away from ants because I don't understand the combat one bit.

Second question, as my friend and I are COMPLETELY new to this game and its mechanics we are unsure of what to base our skills/stats off of for what is "good" or not. For instance, after about 3 days of playing, what should I expect my stats to be? What sort of stats/skills/levels should I have before I'm considered a "self sufficient noob" so I can defend myself against commoners and boars and such....

Examples of stats I'm asking about... What kind of numbers should I have in my health bar, what sort of strength or melee skills do I need to effectively combat for instance... a Boar... or a bear? What sort of weapons should I be using for my first attempts at combat, how should I learn to fight without dying a painful death?

I've started an alt for the purpose of learning only combat.

This. Read Dataslycers guide.

If you're a newbie who's only 2 days old, there's a very good chance you're actually just absolutely terrible at combat and don't realize it yet.

Yeah I had no idea my stats needed to be mid 40's to start attacking foxes and the like. Currently my highest skill is melee combat... At 10.

Melee combat would be useful. If you had access to bronze/soldier swords that is. Otherwise, train UA.

your best bet is raising explorer first till you can find seeds, then marksman so you can hunt bigger game with a slingshot and finally survival so you can butcher better Q stuff off animals.

that's about all you need to survive on your own

Melee isn't made useful by Swords and Armor. Unarmed and Melee benefit fairly proportionately from having those things. Melee is made useful by having enough UA to not die horribly.

Asval is correct though. 10 Marksmen and a shitty sling will kill even a bear with enough stones and time. Just signpost trap it and ping it from your boat.

This is a little over 2 days after I started. Are these stats good enough to kill a fox?... A boar?

With a sling, from a boat, yes. Toe to toe, no.
