Animals and Questions

Postby Brandwein » Tue Mar 08, 2011 12:38 am

Hi guys
I have a few things to say/ask about animals.
Firstly, i feel like the frequency of animals has increased since the server downtime today.
I saw 4 boars in 10 minutes right now and other days i went hunting, i sometimes searched for one single boar like 20 minutes.
And foxes where EVERYWHERE right now. Or maybe my last hour of hunting was just lucky...hmm...
-
Well next point:
How do you manage taming now? Animals can destroy fences now, so how can you tame them?
Grind enough LP to fight them?
-
And last point:
animals running away. Bears do run away? Did they do that always?
Well, how is the best tactic to kill bears and deers, which run away once? I shoot at them from the river
and they run away. Sometimes they come back and i can jump out of my boat. Then they dont do anything because they are
in "escape"-mode and i can shoot them easily. But sometimes they just run away and never come back, running out of sight.
I even had a case, where a deer ran out of sight and i lost the focus, but then it came back after all.
So how do i manage to kill those escaping animals?

Greets and have fun

Wild cows and sheep cant break fences, and the best way to hunt animals is to shoot them as soon as they twitch. If you time it right they will not run away when their HP gets low(most of the time)

there are lots of different strategies for killing animals (im guessing ur stats arent good enough to fight one head to head) '

from a boat do the following (works best with 20+ perception and Marksman and 30+ unarmed) (also LP is baced off total health dmg done for the fight this means breaking combat drmatically reduces LP gianed

Boars: shoot them from the boat but make sure you are quite close to the shore, as soon as you shoot if they run drive up hop out and click punch on their portrait to chase them down (with 30+ unarmed and 80+strength u should be able to one punch him) if it gets away stop runing and dont move it should run away till the portrait goes "?" then turn and come back to where your standing (still non aggressive) step a few feet to the side and when it gets to the position where you just were it will stop for a second then run again use this chance to punch it again (make sure its running and not stopped). Repeat untill dead. (using the skill knock his teeth out works better if your unarmed or strength is lower if you want to one punch it. to do this use call down the thunder (leadership) from your boat prior to shooting him then when you get out use "not his teeth out" instead of punch (usually 3700 full change)

Foxes: unless your are willing to get out and wall it in with sign posts prior to combat, or fight them head to head, they are kinda shitty and not worth your time being as easy as boars and only giving 1/4 the LP (1100 full change)

deer: use two people (if you cant one shot a deer(+25 percep 50+mm and a bow)), one gets out and the other pull the deer from the boat the one on shore (not in combat) wall the deer with signs(the deer will only kill them if its in agressive mode, not when its running) the person in the boat should quickly pick the other up than both can shoot it dead from the boat(tip: pull it away from the herd before walling to prevent massive heals from other deer) (2500LP i think)

Bear: to kill a bear use a low quality (20-40) sling and only fire once every 30-60seconds keeping you damage per minute down is the key to keep it from running then you simply shoot it over and over (if successful it will never run) doing hits of about 50-100 every minute or 2 can kill it in less than 10minutes (18000 LP full change)

Taming: to tame an animal u need decent stats and the skills (call down the thunder)(consume the flames)(sidestep)(quell the beast). i would suggest getting some armor so you dont take hhp dmg even when using the walling method (cows and sheep cant kill wall / signs. check out the wikipage on taming.

i hope that helps

ive tamed several cows using the method in the wiki and have kill easily 30+ bears and 100+boars and this method woorks great for me being able to one shot the boar ( make it run) hop out and punch it right beside the shore

good luck!

Well, i have 72 unarmed and 83 strenght now.
I can kill boars and foxes easily, but the problem was the running deers and bears.
I said "But sometimes they just run away and never come back, running out of sight."
So, sometimes its no problem to shoot a deer/bear down if it runs back in "escape"-mode, but sometimes it just runs out of sight,
the "?" appears and then the picture vanishes.
@PkCarter
the deer will only kill them if its in agressive mode, not when its running

sure? I had the situation, a deer ran away and destroyed another deer (dead) and my boat :O

But thanks, i thought aurochs and mouflons can break fences too.
I have bearcape and other armor, so that should not be a problem.
Thanks guys ;)

you can kill a bear with 20 melee pretty easily provided you have most of the combat skils (maybe all) not head on but just gain some ip on a boat ,jump off evil eye it ,jump back onto boat op knock a few times and valstrike / sting it

Sounds incredibly dangerous, and stupid. I'll stick to slinging it from the boat.

nah evil eye drains the attack bar so the animal cant hurt you

I tried to evil eye a bear, clicked it from about two boat lengths away, ran towards it - but the bear struck first...

This thread has some truly bad advice in it.

If you're Really terrible at hunting and keep chasing animals away/can't tame them? Use shallow water. Animals can't enter shallow water tiles, it's super easy to setup traps by shallow water, and as long as the shallow water is 2 tiles long animals won't be able to attack you. There are tons of other methods, so many so that they've been elaborated on countless times. I don't feel explaining them all again.

You only need 1 UA/MC/MM/STR/AGI/CON or whatever else to tame animals if you utilize shallow water. You should probably have 10 MM if you plan to hunt with it though.
