Hunting with sling

Postby kilamaos » Thu Mar 10, 2011 5:08 pm

I am actually thinking about hunting. I do not have much UAC, so i though that using a sling wouldnt be too bad. So here is my question : how much marksmanship i'd need to hunt a fox with a low quality sling ( around ql15 ) ?
With a PER of 20.

And also, what is required for hunting foxes and what could improve my marksmanship , per , or other usefull.

Please answer my question supposing i do not have anything improving my markmanship and per, or any cloth granting bonuses.

A QL 15 sling will allow you to use up to 30 marksmenship. Anything above that, with that QL sling, isn't added towards your attempt.

But with how many points in marksmenship would I be able to kill a fox ( Without boat )?

Without a boat, the cost of marksmenship equals suicide.

Ok. I've been told that bear were easier than foxes , from a boat. I'd need only 15 MM with a q15 sling. Is that right ?

If it's true, what would i need to make a bear to go close to the river if it isnt already?

You don't NEED any marksmanship to kill any animal, it just makes it easier. The only thing MM does is decrease the time it takes to aim and shoot an animal. Since ranged combat disregards defense, as long as you make contact you'll do damage (albeit probably a very small amount depending on the quality of your sling).

It's entirely possible to kill a bear with 1 MM and a q8 sling. It'll probably just take you a couple hours.

If it's not already close to the river.. If it's -fairly- close, meaning within minimap range of the river, get the bear on the very edge of your screen and sling a rock at it (doesn't need to hit). Then run as fast speed as you can back to your boat.

Auroch and Mouflon can be penned with signs.

Foxes can be penned with roundpole fences.

Deer/Boars/Bears you fight head on or from a boat.

Basically trap the fox with signs, then construct a roundpole fence around him. He can break signs, but not the fence. q10 MM is about the point where you can kill a fox, but it's still slowish. Between 5-15 minutes with a lot of luck factoring in since you're shooting so rarely. Get the best quality sling that you can for this to improve your damage potential by a bit.

I need some general pointers for being a hunter - I'm closing in on MM30, but am using a low q string. What skills should I lp up further to create a better sling and overall improve damage? (exploration and survival are both at about level 10).
IIRC carrots are perception food, but I gain so little from eating them -> and I'm only at 12 perception atm. Any general pointers on how to increase PERC faster?
Also I have found out that killing boars is pretty nice LP, up to 4k per kill. Is there a better/faster way to farm LP, I really don't have much time to spend on this game and using a slow LP gaining technique will literally take weeks to improve my skills to let's say 50.
Thanks

Marksmanship over 2x your sling quality is useless. You need survival skill to make a better sling. For perception, plaice is nice if you can catch it, if not get yourself some peas and make spring stew.
