recipe to access metal items ?

Postby Tower » Thu Mar 24, 2011 2:36 am

Despite owning metal working and some cast iron nuggets I haven't got access to metal items in my crafting.

What do i need to have to be able to make metal items?

Have you actually picked a bar of metal from the smelter? You need Iron or bronze for some recipes. Others require wrought iron or even steel. Some will need gold or silver. If you can get 10 nuggets, you could at least forge them back into a bar with a crucible.

I've only got nuggets since I traded for them.
I have an alloying crucible but I don't seem to have the ability to turn the nuggets into a bar.

This. Discover them by taking one out of a smelter.

So anyone who trades for metal nuggets is going to be stuck with paper weights unless they've had the chance to take a bar from a smelter?

I can't seem to turn my nuggets into a bar with a crucible or a smelter.
This sucks.

You're correct.

And it does suck.

You could always just trade for 25 ore, then smelt it at home. Unless the miner was full nature for some stupid reason your almost guaranteed to get at least one bar out of it.

Chance of getting at least one bar out of 25 ore

Full industry: 99.6%
Neutral: 92.8%
Full nature: 63.9%

...Where are you getting those numbers? They're very, very wrong. Otherwise I'd have a shitton more bars.

He's stating the chance of getting at least one bar out of 25 ore at those levels, not the chance of getting a bar out of any one ore. That's still a base of 10% at neutral Nature/Industry.

edit: and without doing the actual math by hand, I'd say it's pretty close to right.
