Eggs won't hatch

I have chickens laying fertilized eggs (cock in the chicken coop) and they are "brooding" them (the eggs remain one square below), but when they reach 100% completion they either disappear or they just sit there (sometimes they even start back from 0% again). Any ideas?

If you craft leather into a waterflask (for example) the created flask takes up another spot, it doesn't appear in the same spot. If you've got a full inventory and you make a waterflask, it will appear in your hand, not in your inventory. I know that when you kill a chicken or rabbit, the corpse doesn't appear in your hand, but what about for eggs and chicks? Do they appear in the same location they were, or are they generated in the next spot?

I was just thinking that, same thing with cooking and full bag.
