How do you tell it?

Furniture quality really doesn't matter with a couple of exceptions. Higher quality beds improve travel weariness reduction while sleeping in them. I believe it's been reported a higher quality table will give a minimal bonus to feasting. (Ran across this tidbit on the forums, don't have a link.)

Yes, but things like looms and kilns and herbalist's tables are also furniture, in the sense that you cannot take it into your inventory. How do you tell the quality when you can't take it to inventory?

If quality matters, you'll be able to tell by consulting the wiki for the crafting quality formula for that item. If you weren't present for the crafting of the item or don't remember what q materials went into it, it's also possible to reverse engineer the quality of an item by the quality of the items it produces.

Generally speaking, anything that produces something almost always has an effect on its quality. As for furniture that don't "make" things: Chairs and tables give feasting bonuses, beds give travel weariness bonuses. I believe that's it.

Unfortunately there the quality of your furniture is not listed. As wonderful as it would be as a feature, we have to work around this.

Take the formula for the object from the wiki (It's pretty close to accurate if not entirely accurate) and plug in variables. Basic algebra. Fill in as many variables as possible with known numbers then solve for X.

I was afraid that would be the only option, yeah... But for some things that doesn't give an exact result, since there's a certain range of quality that could be achieved.

I've always considered these things tools so as to not confuse work objects with visuals/containers. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Track the quality of your finery forge and steel crucible extra closely then. Make sure to leave notes listing their quality on creation.
