Stealth, wat be?

Postby Tamalak » Fri Apr 01, 2011 3:54 am

I am in the dark about the Stealth skill. The wiki provides almost nothing except unsupported hints. Like the ranger shirt: "Stealth is all but useless given the way that detecting scents works. You are better off with a Vapntreyiu or even a Nettle Shirt. " Wat? I thought it was a straight check of Stealth*Int vs Explore*Perception. How does that make stealth useless for concealing scents? Or is it just that ranger has too big of an advantage to overcome and it's hopeless to even try to conceal your scent?

Also does stealth have any other use? One part of the wiki hints that it raises all of your other abilities a little.. or something. Who has real knowledge of this skill?

Not many people who frequent the forums know the in depth properties of the Stealth skill.

The wiki is someone correct on its way of being "useless", but that is outdated with the removal of world four. Back then -everyone- had higher perception and exploration, since it helped with foraging and for increasing your minimum damage for ranged combat. But now with the new Curio system Intelligence has a good use, therefore increasing the amounts of intelligence grinding people do and in turn the likely hood of new Thief players to emerge.

You are correct, however. It's a Stealth*Int vs Expl*Perc. -But-, like with foraging, the numbers vary somewhat up or down. You basically "roll" to see if you see this scent or that scent, similar to how you can only see some spindly taproot at 1 but all of them at 4.

In all, Stealth makes it easier for someone to get away with Trespassing, Theft, Vandalism, and sometimes Murder.

Now that I think about it, there is some form of "cheating" for people with claims. Some sort of feed you can subscribe your email to for your account that automatically tells you when someone has left any form of scent on your claim, no matter what your Perc*Expl numbers are or what their Int*Stlh is. Which is pretty bullshit in my opinion, but alas.

Jackwolf, entering and exiting house. Stealth is STILL useless, because it doesn't blocks "visibility rolls".

So if I keep making visibility rolls, that increases my effective Expl*Perc score by what? 2x? 4x?

It doesn't increase anything. It just allows you to see scents that were obscured.

Yes, but is there some minimum score I have to make against the criminal's Int*Stealth before I have any chance at all to see him? Rerolls don't help if I have a 0% chance, do they?

I'm assuming this works kind of like herbalism.

So higher stealth doesn't allows you to hide scents, it allows you to hide your direction? Then stealth is not useless.

Bar, that doesn't work on every scent in existance.

If you have 1 Explo and 10 Perc, you will still never ever ever, ever ever, ever see someone who has 100 Stealth and 50 Int. If you have close to theirs, but just not enough, you will have the chance.

In world five I had 22 Int * 30 Stealth on an alt for scouting, I always kept his ranging on as well. He had 15 Perc * 20 Explo, only once a week would I ever see my own scents.

Not exactly what Alpha is refering to, but if it's saying that I've never seen a tracking process before I've been so honoured as to have first experienced it two weeks in when I was being "relocated" by a nearby russian village. You can happily piss off, if so is the case. Please, something constructive next time. ;)

When you track someone there appears a dark-red "direction arrow" on a light-red circular background.

I was talking about certain scents of a certain person in W3 who was tracked by a ranger with 300 perc*100 exp and dark-red directional arrow was 360 degrees wide.

Also, next time, learn to read, ass shit clown.
