Quick question on combat

Postby suddoman » Sat Apr 09, 2011 3:13 am

First question:
Does weapon damage help in anyway with the amount of defense that is depleted? Or is only the wait. In other words does Chop with a 160q B12 Axe deplete the same amount of defense as a Punch assuming the same stats.

Thanks for any help.

Edit: Also how does the damage of an attack get calculated in.

The way it was explained to me was.

STR and weapon quality determine damage when the defense bar is depleted.

And your skill in either melee or unarmed determine the amount of defense bar taken down.

Now whether the defense bar has anything to do with your weapon quality or damage i'm not sure.

You've got it right.

The formula that I've seen used to determine the amount of a defense bar that is depleted is on http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Combat_Actions. It has no reference to weapon damage only to the weight of the attack which is only a reference to your skill. And how does this differ from the damage of an attack?

Also it says that Valorous Strike can't be used with an axe and the Stick does. I don't know who to trust (I kind of trust the sticky more).

You can't deal damage until you depelete the opponents defense, so the weapon is pointless. A q10 stone axe is pretty much as good as q200 militia sword until this.

Sting and Valorous Strike can only be used with a sword. If you have an axe (any axe), you use Chop or Cleave.

Okay that's what I wanted to know. So does the damage you deal based off the % of the attack that is left over after the bar is full depleted. Like if you would deal 50% of a defense, and they have 10% left would you deal 80% of your damage.

If it does, then the wiki is wrong, which wouldn't surprise me in the least. (Wiki says sword.)

You can valor strike with stone axes and B12s.
