Question about clay

Postby Jordus » Sun Apr 10, 2011 2:31 pm

I read the wkik on clay but what I am trying to figure out is what makes the node here. If my Palisade and claim are around Clay #2. If some one gets clay from #1, 3 or 4 will it reduce what is in #2? Also if I check #2 once per day and get 1 q10 clay will it only ever give e 1 clay, no matter how big the area it takes up is?

Thanks for helping out.
Yeah the pic rocks.

The size of the node depends on the quality of the node--the higher the bigger.

Without knowing the size of the node, nobody could really say if anyone will lower your node quality from the other locations. If the node is large enough, they can. However, it will only go down until they hit q10 clay. At that point, they can't dig anymore and the peak of the node will go down by as much as they dug.

If you only get q10 clay, the area is q10 or lower and will only ever produce one clay at a time.

"If you only get q10 clay, the area is q10 or lower and will only ever produce one clay at a time." Damn. Thanks for the reply.
I have not completely covered it with a claim so I guess we will see. I am about 1 hour away from that.

A node really is only worth walling up if it's q40 or higher. Some would even say q60. If I recall from the trade threads of the past, later in the game only very high clay is in demand (q60+).

well we were having such a hard time finding any clay...at all. I mean 2 of us would look for an hour, hour and a half and come back with 2 maybe 3 clay total that I thought walling a block of it up would save it. Sucks. We had a spot picked out of q60 soil and I guess we should have stayed there. I thought that each time you see a break or separation between clay/mudflat patches that it was a different node.

Some people will say 2 of the 3 clay, soil, or water nearby (preferably all claimable) for a settlement. I don't think soil is as much an issue because the only thing that it really matters for is tree planting. It's nice for getting crop quality up, but that goes pretty steady with good skill and full nature, anyway. Good clay and water are the big ones for production in just about anything. If you can find one, you can always trade for the other.

I see. Thanks for the time Magicman.
I just thought it made sense that if there was a break between the clay masses (what I numbered) that they were separate.
I would not mind getting q10 clay as long as was getting a good amount. It is near impossible to build a kiln and stove it seems.

It is quite easy to, you just need to find a q11 node or higher. Many people don't even consider q10 clay as a node due to its near absolute lack of yield.

It almost sounds easier to find metal. Of course the ability to mine the metal may take a little longer.

Trust me when I say it's easier to find clay. Heck, it's easier to find good sand than ore if you don't have a good sized cave complex.
