Assult and scents

Postby Ziggyzog » Tue Apr 12, 2011 2:31 am

I bought rage a while ago and decided that I'd trick my friend in a life or death situation with combat. I tricked him into going outside of our claim and then I attacked him. Needless to say he did a poor job, and blood ended up everywhere. Even though this was not in my claim, could this action be tracked?

Yes. Physical attacks leave scents anywhere in the world. If you only assaulted him and didn't knock him out, the scent cannot be used to summon you at least. However it can still be used to track you and your hearthfire.

In that case a fight by the river was not a good idea. You can still put hearth fires in houses right?

Yes, it's their preferred location.

Also I do not think I knocked him out, he did not fall down nor did stars/birds appear over his head, but he did take some damage from something after the fight stopped. Could it have been that his shoes broke and he got a splinter from the forest or is this some type or new player protection?

Can't be sure, but it's likely his shoes broke from the damage you did to him and he was merely experiencing the "thorn in foot" effect.

How easily do clothes break? Do they only break when your defense is completely gone or can they break anytime while fighting?

They absorb a certain amount of damage during combat (basically they've got their own HP that adds to yours and takes the damage first) and once their HP is gone they are destroyed.

Also if you 'kill' someone without the murder skill by repetitively knocking them out, does it still leave a murder scent?

There's nothing protecting noobs that I know of from death, I've killed an alt that spawned about 30 seconds before I found it. Shoes can take about 3 hits before they disintegrate, so it was probably forest walking damage that knocked him down. The assault can be tracked to your claim... but eh. Put your HF in a house and you're fine imo. Assault dissipates pretty quickly.

Depends if the clothes are armor or not. Clogs count as armor, and at Q10 have 20hp and absorb the first 7 damage off any hit. That means 3 hits and they break. All other newbie gear isn't armor and will never be destroyed in combat. Combat is the only form of clothing breaking in the game.

Pro tip for beginners = bunny slippers. Easy to make with just needing 2 rabbit hides, and it's not armor. So the shoes never get eaten by ants.
