"Quell Beast" take too long, intensity increases

Postby Bugssy » Sat May 07, 2011 8:15 am

I'm following the guide on taming, but no matter how many times I reset the intensity, by the time "Quell the Beast" bar is almost done, the intensity is at 1 already.

What am I supposed to do?

My guess is to get higher UA.

I'm guessing you're in melee combat taming. In which case, get your agility up and use combat meditation.

My UA is 58 and Melee is 30.

Agility WAS 28, but the armor I wore took it down to 18, think thats the problem?

This.

If you've got the animal penned (like you really should), you need to retreat during the time in between Consume and Quell. That way, the animal won't push the intensity back up.
Back, I guess

The hell are you taming? Boars?

If aurochsen/mouflon, pen them allup including the one tamed, enter from a diagonal
Code: Select all
-X-
XAX
-X-

X = Gate/Fire sign
A = Animal
Enter from any corner to hit them with your move then move out.

Best and easiest way:
16 IP
3x Skuld
1x Sting Like A Bee!
1x Quell

Yes, after Quell it'll go back up, of course, you want to walk away (while quell still in cooldown) to the point where all or most of the aurochsen drop combat (Go until they're "?" then stay there, it'll drop), then walk back to them and attack a diferent aurochs (DO NOT ATTACK THE AUROCHS YOU WERE TAMING)
After attacking that different aurochs the first one will have re-engaged combat, make sure of this by counting the portraits and being sure they are all there including him, if he is not do the 'drop combat' trick again and retry.
Now that he's re-initiated combat, repeat the Quelling process and this time it'll go to 40, repeat 3 more times and enjoy your cow.

Never initiate combat directly with the Aurochs you are taming, he needs to initiate it or it will 'break' him back down to 20. I thought it was a bug at first (it might be) but I suppose it makes some sense anyway.

I think it's safe to assume it's a boar.

Can you not pen them up? Or in the case of taming find shallow water and walk to it? I recall my first boar, not remembering they break signs and that they 'reaggro' so fast, I ended up indeed running from it, but this cost me a lot of hunger and water.
