Killing boars

Postby Nicolai » Sat May 14, 2011 1:04 am

So i've managed to do a bit of ranged hunting(aurochsen mostly) but I haven't been able to finish off a boar when it goes to run away, and helpful tips for when it's about to scoot out and run?

Chase its ass and punch it to death. No really, it wont attack you unless its SHP regenerates back to when it feels strong.

Yeah, but I chased one around for a good 5 minutes at least, I just couldnt keep my stamina up enough to catch it and raise up my attack bar before running out of stamina.

Yeah, you need to de-agro it for it to stop running from you. Click the little green circle with the sword that's next to the boars icon in the top right corner of the screen.

But if I do that, will it's defense bar not raise naturally while out of combat? And with only 10 unarmed would I be able to break right through for the kill?

Bring water in flasks, drink while running. Click the punch on the boar to make following easier. Forget about trying to attack the boar while it's sitting still with 10ua. While it's running away you penetrate through the defense entirely.

Takes a little practice.

So should I maybe wait around after I drop combat with it until my attack meter fills on it's own, then initiate with dash or something to make him run then punch through the open defense?

If a boar stops, best choice is to pump a slingshot in to get them moving again. It does damage and you're not standing beside them if a deer heals them and they go aggressive or something. Running is easy as pie with water and a bit of a headstart.

Attack meter is meaningless when punching something on the move. You do 100% damage regardless.

Stand in the shallow water of a river or lake and hit the Boar with stones until it starts to run. With full stamina, you can catch up to it in running speed and finish it off with two or more punches, depending on the level of the Boar and how high your Unarmed Combat and Strength is. As was also mentioned, carry a Waterskin or Flask to replenish your stamina while you're running.

If it takes more than 2 punches to kill a fleeing boar then you probably need to worry about getting some more strength or a better sling before you worry about killing boars.
