Question On Scents

Postby dagon420 » Tue Jul 12, 2011 1:34 am

Just wondering: What scent is left if you take from a clay/soil/water node on a village or personal claim that you aren't authorized to be on?

Just to clarify: You can use the scent to find the perpetrator, but not the materials?

Correct.

This basically makes ball clay spots indefensible until something is done to combat this.

Just to clarify what cobalt is saying: claims have no 'authority' over water, thus a player digging, breaking things, taking a boat, etc. won't leave vandalism and theft scents there.

edit: I'd do a strikeout on that if it existed with this forum software. My bad for 'getting it wrong.' There are a few things you can do on water if it's claimed, though. Just make sure to have criminal acts off and you won't have to worry about leaving a scent.

Actually you still leave vandalism scent if you dig clay on shallow water. I am not as sure with filling water from a shallow/deep water though.

You leave scents no matter what, even for taking water (vandalism too) or smashing boats on water.

I dunno if he was just trying to troll the new guy or if he was just horribly misinformed or what :?: (Magic usually knows what he's talking about and is reasonable with newbs)

The latter :( I'll wipe that previous out. My understanding was that claims just didn't work over water for anything other than attacks on a character.

I know for a fact you don't leave anything while foraging (clay or mussels) or fishing. I've even picked up logs laying in the water. I was going to put a couple of disclaimers on that above statement, but I was just thinking of assualt/battery/murder and theft (off of a body). I didn't even think of breaking boats or rafts.
