Frog crown and Prince charming

Postby sillynipples » Tue Jul 26, 2011 10:18 pm

I have a royal toadstool and a shocked frog, all I'm missing to make a prince charming is a frog crown. I have a few questions.

First of all, where do you find a frog crown and how high does your perception/exploration need to be to spot one?
How rare are shocked frogs, and what could I trade mine for? I heard they're very rare, so maybe I could get something good if I traded it.
How good is the prince charming curio? How much LP does it give, and how much time does it take to finish?

Frog Crown
Min perception * exploration is 550, only foraged on mountain terrain.

Prince Charming
Study Time: 12hrs
Base LP: 10,000

I believe shocked frogs are valued roughly equivalent to Q10 River Pearls. Pearls are a pretty basic trade good so scan through apples and orange to see what you can get for it. I'd say if you are a new hermit go for a good quality axe, a low Q merchant robe, or (if you like where your house and you like farming) a decent Q70+ herb table.

I'd say you're about 5-10x as likely to find a pearl as a shocked frog. Others may have a different estimate on the rarity of them.

Just my opinion but I think it's more valuable as a novelty/collection item than a curio, so I think it's worth more than a pearl.

Some people collect rare curios like rabid jackalope, strange beetroot, everglowing ember, etc and never use them.

I realize I'm just conjecturing, I think pearls seem more common because people spend more time farming mussels. I don't really know anyone or heard of anyone that goes out of their way to pick up all frogs they see.

There is a villager in my village that picks up (almost) every frog he passes, we're talking about boat foraging and stopping when he sees frogs. He averages (aprox) a shocked frog a week it seems.

My original appraisal was based off a quick search on Apples for Oranges. I hope I'm not coming across as defensive, just wanted to give my reasoning etc.

I would say the chance of getting a shocked frog is ~ 1 in "a few" hundred, so rarer than pearls, but not by a factor of 5 or 10, more like 1 in ~300 if you ask me. (I've found 4 of them, so.. not a lot of data. But they are definitely not 1/1000, unless I'm absurdly lucky :P)

However, they are much more fun to find than pearls - you don't have to boil the mussels, or go back to town each time you collect 2 lcs full of them. So I think the valuation 1 shocked frog = 1 pearl is probably about right, even though pearls have so many other uses.

Mostly true, but a swamp can have 20 or more frogs on it at once. I know I've filled up my backpack with frogs and then some off my local swamplands.

Ok... so I have the frog, the toadstool, and the crown but the recipe for prince charming isn't showing up under crafting: curios. Any idea why?

I think you need the skill Tales by the Hearth or something like that? I can't remember precisely but do you have the skill requirements met?
