I believe the answer is currently "no." I know Adventure->Destroy cannot be used on idols full of authority, but I've never tried ramming an idol. I've heard at one point you could ram them even at full authority. I don't know whether that changed but I think it did.

Wrong. Idols can be destroyed by anyone if the authority is below 50k. I have done it myself using Adventure->Destroy.

Correct. By the way, authority is gained the instant
any villager gains LP no matter where they are standing.
min_the_fair wrote:The amount of authority you get depends on your charisma
Yes, and also intelligence. The formula is Auth_gained = LP_earned * sqrt (INT * CHA) / 10.
killette2 wrote:What is a good charisma level to have when starting a village?
Even at 10 charisma and 10 intelligence, it is not difficult for one person to sustain a village's authority if they play every day.
killette2 wrote:what is the purpose of a cheift? Are they needed and do they help gain authority?
A chief is not necessary but it can be helpful. Except for the chieftain hat (which gives charisma), a chief is not better at gaining authority than any other villager. The purpose of a chief is to have a second person (apart from the lawspeaker) who is able to invite people and create crossroads, among other things. Sometimes the lawspeaker is not online often enough.
