Softcap@building things.

Postby Mateusz_Zboj » Sun Sep 11, 2011 3:13 pm

E.g.
I have 1 Carpentry
I have 3 q 100 boards

Will the tanning tub I'd build a 100 quality one?

I've asked this same question to myself a thousand times, forgetting the answer afterwards. The answer is yes, it will be q100 because your skills don't softcap it. That said I'd still be deathly afraid of doing so.

From what I can tell, skills softcap things built via crafting, and things you pick up or put into the ground (foraging, mining, planting trees, ...).

I don't think skills affect the quality of buildings (things using a sign to construct) or the behavior of items which are stored in/produced by buildings [such as baking bread in an oven after the dough has been crafted].

I don't think any skill has any impact on quality of buildings. I believe the tub should be of quality 100.

I built a tanning tub using 3 q10 boards and everything else (including my rabbit fur) was q10, but I got a q9 piece of leather. All my skill and attribute vaules are >10 except for melee & unarmed cb, but I still only get q9 Leather. I don't get why I get q9 leather.

P.S. I have been using the bug that resets the % finished to 92%

Ever consider that quality isn't stored as an integer and that it could be subject to rounding errors?

No, skills and attributes don't have an effect on finished quality of buildings. This includes, but isn't limited to: tanning and curding tubs, meat grinders, ovens, etc. I'm not sure of the reasoning behind it, but I suspect it's because that once the construction sign is placed, anyone can load materials and actually build it.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

How could the quality of the product used be a decimal # if all materials used were quality 10?

Edit: Maybe the quality of the cart used for the bug has an effect. That could be 1 possibility.

That is not the case. That has absolutely nothing to do with how quality is determined.

Or maybe the boards weren't ql 10 after all?
Maybe bone saw was quality 9, and resuting boards ql 9 as well?
And Zing thinking that minimum ql for boards is 10, like for most other items, and not checking their actual quality?

Both my bone saw and boards used are q10. I had recently rebuilt all my tubs with q10 boards.
