no stake claim trade threads? + What animals could I kill?

Postby Zing1515 » Tue Sep 13, 2011 4:46 pm

Why can't people make trading threads for the stake claim players? Every thread I see says village idol hopping. It makes it extra hard to get stuff for stake claim players Like me, such as high quality weapons.
I have the lawspeaking skill but never killed an animal in combat fight, so I can't get bear teeth or deer antlers for village claim. Please start making a thread for stake claim trades!

odds are that you are not close to the trader, and most people would not be willing to travel to deliver goods. (or possibly even provide coordinates if the stake claim buyer was willing to travel far)

honestly, just get a q20 sling and 40mm and you'll have no problem killing bears/deers from a boat and both those arent hard to get. Can even be done with less but the better the sling/mm, the faster it would be to kill said animal.
Getting a village idol up even for a hermitage should be a high priority as it provides an alternate teleport point so you can relocate your hearthfire to simplify certain tasks like gathering wood, mining etc etc and not to mention having access to crossroads to lessen the need to use keys on your gates. Also while you are getting ready to set up a village, I would recommend getting some wine ready as well to help with travel weariness as once you get a village idol, you will find yourself teleporting a fair bit more while doing tasks.

Here is a way to do without village claim.

Requires 2 character, one must have ranging skill, the other one must have a black skill, like thief.
Unallow the thief in your claim. Then make him steal something in your claim.
With ranger, get this scents.

Then send your thief for the trade (destroying his hf)
And for him to get back, disconnect him, and summon him with the scents the ranger have.

This way is quite unsecure, and may lead to your thief death if you don't have a wall.

Village idol jumping is a possible trade method because you can jump to a village idol.

You can't teleport to someone's claim stake.

If you don't have a village idol, you are not developed enough for inter-supergrid commerce, unfortunately. Your best bet is to travel around and get in touch with your local neighbors (local being in your same water-network or within a 20 minute or so walk).

I currently have a quality 19 sling and 20marksmanship (marksmanship=mm, right?). According to wiki, marksmanship only affects the speed of the arrow/stone, not damage. Also, what marksmanship and perception do I need to kill a bear or deer in 1 hit? And do deers attack you in a herd or one at a time? Can they break through roundpole fences or construction signs? Also, can I hit animals just outside a palisade from the inside with all gates closed? Please answer soon.

Those questions really belong in How Do I?

Don't bother trying to kill bears in 1 hit. It requires a sling of at least q2890. This doesn't exist. You could use up to 5780 Marksmanship with a weapon of that quality. You'd need a ~q810 Bow to do the same. A ~q90 Ranger's Bow also works. This is assuming it is a level 10 Bear. Deer require substantially less. q160/q40/q10, Sling/Bow/Ranger's Bow Respectively. I can't tell you what Perception you'd need to be consistent because I haven't a clue what their agility is. Deer attack you one at a time but will heal all animals, including each other, within distance. They can break through signs and pole fences. Yes, you can attack animals that are outside of your palisade.

Please use one of the many combat guides available or do a basic search in How Do I? and you'll find plenty of threads with these questions answered and many more useful ones.

I seem to recall someone figuring it out at around 100, which if I recall the the damage formula correctly, means you need 200 perc to do max damage every hit. Or you could just go with a better quality weapon and not worry about being able to do as close to max.

edit: FYI, sticking some nonsense like that in you sig will probably just increase the odds of you getting swatted like a bug. A wise man once said, "In order to have peace, one must prepare for war."

The problem is: I have no way of getting high quality string near my small settlement. The highest I ever got was quality 33. (I currently have the only 2 of q33 I ever found; not used) And I got q9 leather with a q<10 tub, but when I detroyed that tub and rebuilt it with q10 boards, it still stayed quality 9. How do I get higher quality Leather for my string? And how do I trade for a high quality sling when everyone only does village idol hopping?

use that crappy sling and kill a bear, dry hide, make straps = good quality string. everyone here did this at least once. (sling quality is soft capped by survival so you know)

hope that helps a bit.
