Can people use crossroads that aren't part of their village using criminal acts or can only villagers use them?

Can crossroads be built underground?

And finally can crossroads be used to travel from above to bellow ground or do they need to be on the same layer?

1.yes they can,thats why people only make crossroads out the village and not into it.
2.crossroads can only be built on village claims,so if you can(or have) an underground v claim then yes.
3.if theres a way to have V claim(trough statues or lord knows what) both underground and above ground,then it should be.
but i honestly dont know.

As long as you can connect the crossroads you can travel from one to another. I use a surface crossroad to go into the mines all the time as it's a good idea to wall off your minehole to keep raiders from getting in through it

2. As long as a village claim is there, yes.

Would you have to have two seperate v claims? Both on the surface and whichever layer you are wanting to travel to? Or is there a way to make a surface v claim extend underground?

Anyone can destroy one with a battering ram. The LS or chief are the only ones that can take one down by hand and it only takes a few seconds. (Reason: so people can't make walls out of crossroads.)
